Ariel and the Big News by Laura Wiggins
*****
Once upon a time there were a new baby born! It was Ariel! She was so cute! All the people came to see it! Every merman and mermaids came to see it! But one people did not come to see it! It was the Octopus! She was a bad guy! She did not like Ariel! One day when her mom was teaching all the mermaids and mermens, Octopus got her and put her octopus
jail! She could not get out! Time pass and Ariel grew up! The Dad forgot about the Mom! Ariel was beautiful in her own way! They live in a small house in the ocean! She loved looking around! She loved her Dad too! One day she went far away in the deep blue sea! She found a comb, but she didn't know what it was! And she found a smoking thing but she didn't know what that was either! So she went to a seagull to find
out! So she went! She found the seagull in a rock! Hi, Scuttle! She said, "How are you doing today?" "I am doing great," he said. "What's the problem?"
"We don't know
"Hmmm, I know. This is a fork," he said. But it's really a comb; that's what we think! "And this is a musical instrument," he said. But that's really a smoking thing; that's what we think.
And off she went to tell her dad! She went home to tell her dad! He was mad! "I don't like when you touch human stuff!" he said to Ariel.
Ariel said, "I am sorry," she said.
But she still went to a person this time! She saw a man laying on sand! It was the prince! He was kind too! Just like her! She said, "Hi, Prince!"
He said, "Hi, mermaid!" And he went to the castle! She went to home right away!
One day when she was about to grab her breakfast, Dad said she had news. She was excited! Dad said, "We were going to be at a castle!"
She said, "Hip hip hip hooray!"
The end.

Happy fifth birthday, Little Bug
Little Bug turned five today. According to Little Monkey, today was also his birthday and he's five.
Her princess collection expanded quite a bit and she got a puppy purse from Aunt Shelly and Uncle Paul (she's been wanting a purse for a while). She chose chicken Parmesan, green beans, carrots, "plain" bread (rather than garlic or cheesy) and pink cake. And it was certainly pink.

How about a little distr...Chicken!
LB: (yelling) No! I want to be Sleeping Beauty every time we play!
LF: (yelling) You're yelling! I'm telling! (Curious voice) Hey. That rhymes... I'm still telling.

Headband girls (and Aunt Shelly):
Checking out the jewelry:
Wooden "paper" dolls:
Hannah the ham:
All the princesses:
Grammy gave Frog a birthday party at the local boutique Vintage Violet. For a while now, our family has loved this boutique. Aunt Zizi loves the clothes, I love the jewelry, and Grammy loves the hats. Frog and Bug just love all the sparkly.
Thank you to all of Frog's friends that came out. And a huge thank you to Stephanie and her staff.

Devise a Disguise
Today at International Spy Academy, we were supposed to devise a disguise. I took a cowgirl, a princess, and Batman with me. The princess declined a picture for the paparazzi.

The Princess at the Ball.
"Prince! This is a princess. Can you marry her?"
"Sure. Uh...no. She only has one eye."
"Oh. I didn't know that."
"What are you guys staring at?"
"Nuffin'."
"Are you looking at my eye? I can't see..."
"No. We weren't looking at your eye. We were looking at your...uh...hand."
"That's not my hand. That's my foot."
Seriously, folks. I can't make this stuff up. This was the conversation at the ball while Little Frog and Little Bug were taking a bath this morning. This conversation was equal parts LBug and equal parts LFrog. I loved the awkward pauses that they built into it.

Stage Change!
We went and saw our friend Christina in the Arts Center of the Ozarks's production of Cinderella. She did an excellent job. The best part was when there was the first stage change from Cinderella's garden to the palace. Karen said, "What just happened? That's the ball?!?"

Chores Reward: Mom Date (aka Princess Night at ChickFilA)
So, after two weeks, the girls finally built a whole prize: Mom Date. Well, let's be honest. They had most of the letters earned when I found out about Princess Night on Sunday, but most of the letters were working toward other prizes. So, I played Switcharoo when the girls were in bed one night, then only let them pull letters from a smaller pool for the last couple of days. But Princess Night could not have come at a better time for motivation in the chore routine. They earned the final letter on Tuesday and we immediately put "Mom Date" on the calendar for tonight.
We had a lot of fun. We got all dressed up in princess dresses, jewelry, and fancy shoes with fancy hair. We listened to our favorite "girl music" in the car. (That'd be Sara Groves, JJ Heller, and Laura Story.) We ate our chicken nuggets while standing in the setting sun, waiting for what was undoubtedly the ride of a lifetime. We saw the Princess Cow (and then Laura put a princess cone hat on and said she was the Princess Cow.) We pet the horse and rode in "Cinderella's carriage" with Snow White. Then Laura played on the playground with her new cow watch while Karen ate the ice cream she exchanged her watch for. Laura declared it the Best Mom Date Ever. Karen said it was fun except for the Princess Cow, which she was scared of.

Are the girls too young for MacBeth?
The three Disney witches they have are Maleficent, Ursula, and Snow White's stepmom disguised as an old woman. The three of them are fighting over which one is going to marry Nazeem. Which I find highly amusing. I'm not sure why they abandoned their princesses today in favor of the witches. But I am fighting wanting to take all four from them and read out MacBeth's opening scene to them.

Paul better get on it.
A: So, we're going to go have lunch with Miss Danyella today.
L: Do I know Miss Yella?
A: Uh... No. Probably not.
L: But who is she?
A: Uncle Paul's friend from high school, and now she's my friend.
L: And still Uncle Paul's?
A: Yes.
L: And he loves her?
A: Like a friend, yes. Not...romantically.
L: Is Uncle Paul going to get married someday?
A: Probably.
L: Well, I like my aunts Zina and Brenda. I want another one.
A: You're killing me, Smalls.
L: What?
A: Never mind. Finish your breakfast then clean your place off, please.
L: Then dressed?
A: Yes, please.
L: What color does Yella like?
A: You should be fine wearing pink. Why, do you want to impress her?
L: Is she pretty?
A: Yes.
L: Like a princess?
A: Yes.
L: Uncle Paul should marry her.
A: No. They're friends. And she has a boyfriend.
L: Oh. Are they going to get married?
A: Probably.
L: Can we go to the wedding and see her dressed like a princess?
A: Yes. Please eat now.
L: I want to get married and be a princess...
A: *sigh**

Tears
I have three kids in hysterical tears. Why? Because none of them have the princess they want right now. This is what being sick is all about, folks.

"Family"
What are you playing?
Family. Flynn is the dad and Tianna is the mom. Belle is the darling (daughter) and Ariel is the little dister. Nazeen is Belle's prince and Beast is Ariel's. And they are going to Africa to see their grandads.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a modern Disney Channel Original Movie in a nutshell.

Unusual Playtime
The girls are playing princesses in their bedroom. This is not unusual. Their princesses are "talking" in high, squeaky voices. This is not unusual. The princesses keep taking journeys to my bedroom to change their clothes. This is not unusual.
What is unusual, is that the girls added music to their princess saga soundtrack. Laura is mainly humming movie theme music. Something that sounds vaguely like Jaws, except, obviously, her version of my version. And the classic Hero Has Arrived! theme. Karen is humming Amazing Grace while her princess dances, oblivious to the fact that Laura's princess is trying to track her down and incarcerate her for murder of the Beast.
Sometimes, my kids crack me up.

Traveling Princesses
Laura (as girls play with princesses): Welcome to our home! Where you from?
Karen: Africa!
Laura: We live in America. How did you get all the way here?
Karen: A plane!
Laura: That's fun. Do you want to eat dinner with me?
Karen: Sure!
